The government has fixed the price of eggs at Tk 12 per piece, while potatoes at Tk 35-Tk 36 per kg, and onions at Tk 64-Tk 65 per kg at the retail level. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi announced these new prices at a press conference held at the ministry on Thursday.
He said the government has also decided to allow egg imports if the prices do not come down in the local market.
Ministry officials will monitor the market for one or two days, he said, adding that if the egg price comes down to Tk 12 per piece, the government may reconsider its decision to import eggs.
Meanwhile, the price of bottled soybean oil has been cut to Tk 169 from Tk 174 per litre, loose soybean oil to Tk 149 from Tk 154 per litre, and palm oil to Tk 124 from Tk 128 per litre.
These prices will come into effect in a day or two, Tipu added.
