The government holiday marking Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest celebration of Muslim community – has been extended by one day through an executive order. The decision came on Monday during a cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain made the disclosure at a press briefing after the meeting, saying, “The good news is, April 20 will be a government holiday.”
Before this announcement, the Eid holidays were set from April 21 to April 23, while April 19 will be a holiday too for marking the Shab-e-Qadr. Now, April 20 is also a government holiday.
The move will allow government employees to have a 5-day holiday during Eid-ul-Fitr. If the month of Ramadan stretches for 30 days, the holiday will last for six days.
