Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, said that it is natural to come under sanctions in the current situation where forced disappearances and murders are rampant in the country.
Responding to media reports that the government has directed Bangladesh’s ambassadors abroad to remain cautious to avoid further sanctions after the 2021 US ban on Rapid Action Battalion and its top officials, the BNP leader said, “Foreign missions are tasked with working on behalf of the people of the country. It is not their job to prevent sanctions.”
Amir Khasru said this at a discussion, organised by the The Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Dhaka Metropolitan North, on the BNP announced 27-point state reform plan at the National Press Club on Sunday (8 January).
Amir Khasru said the country needs to be rescued from the grasp of the unelected government and that is why Tarique Rahman has announced the outline of the state reforms.
The party also suggested an upper house comprising educated, skilled, and experienced lawmakers to thwart political corruption, Amir Khosru added.
Referring to the 27-point framework, he said the person who can come up with such a framework is called a ‘statesman’ and Tarique Rahman, the acting Chairman of BNP, did the same thing.
Amir Khasru also demanded the cancellation of all the “black laws including the Digital Security Act.”
Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, professor of philosophy at Jahangirnagar University, read the keynote paper at the programme.
