The government has again raised the electricity prices by 5 per cent at the retail level, effective from February 1.
The tariff was hiked through an administrative order issued by the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry gazette notification on Monday.
The decision to raise the power tariff at the retail level was taken under the new amendment to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Act, which had empowered the government to take any decision in this regard bypassing the regulator’s jurisdiction.
On January 12, the government last raised the retail price of electricity by five per cent.
