The Bangladesh government has decided to send relief and medical supplies to Syria after a deadly earthquake hit the country on February 6.
The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) C-130J transport aircraft will leave Dhaka on Friday carrying large and small tents, blankets, sweaters, dry food and medicines, according to a press release of Inter Services Public Relation Directorate.
BAF Group Captain Jamil Uddin Ahmed will lead the mission, it said.
The special flight will be operated on the Dhaka-Jordan-Syria route to send post-earthquake emergency relief and medical supplies to Syria.
On February 6, a strong earthquake hit the northern part of Syria and caused a lot of damage.
The death toll has already topped 3,000 and is increasing gradually, while many people have been trapped under the rubble.
Due to food, water and housing shortages and a lack of emergency medical services, a humanitarian crisis has emerged in the area after the tremor.
Meanwhile, a 46-member Bangladeshi rescue team has arrived in Turkey to assist with the search and rescue efforts being conducted there following the earthquake that occurred on Monday.
According to officials and medics, the quake killed more than 18,000 people in Turkey.
