At least 17 people were killed and 15 were injured after a Dhaka-bound bus veered off the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga expressway and fell into a ditch in the Kutubpur area in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur on Sunday morning.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Confirming the matter, Shibchar highway police station Officer-in-Charge Abu Nayeem Md Mofazzel Huq said recovery efforts were underway and more details will be given later.
According to locals, the driver of the Emad Paribahan bus lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll into the ditch around 8:30 am.
