A total of 7,105 motorcycles crossed Padma Bridge in the first 12 hours after the authorities opened the biggest bridge in the country from 6:00am today.
Bridge Division Secretary Monjur Hossain confirmed The Daily Star today at 8:10pm.
“The overall experience on the first day is quite good as most of the bikes follow the directives and lane,” he said.
Operation of bikes on the bridge was banned on June 27 last year, a day after the bridge was opened to the public, due to security concerns.
According to Monjur Hossain, total 16,218 vehicles crossed Padma Bridge from Mawa end from 12:00am to 6:00pm and earned total Tk 1.65 crores. Of the vehicles, 6,541 were bikes, he said.
On the other hand, total 7,918 vehicles crossed the bridge from Jajira end and earned Tk 1.10 crores. Of the vehicles, 564 were bikes, he said.
