Three cases were filed against leaders and activists of BNP over yesterday’s clash with police in Dhaka’s Science Lab area.

Two cases were filed with Dhanmondi Police Station under the Explosives Act and the Special Powers Act.

Fifty-two named BNP activists and “many unnamed” others were accused in each case, Ekram Ali Mia, officer-in-charge of the police station, told.

Sub-inspector Muyid Khan and Moazzem Hossain of Dhanmondi Police Station filed the two cases last night.

Twenty-seven people who were arrested during the clash were made accused in the cases, the OC added.

Meanwhile, SI Sabuj Mia of New Market Police Station filed another case accusing 46 named and around 500 unnamed BNP men.

BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP’s Publicity Affairs Secretary Shahiduiddin Chowdhury Annie, BNP Chairperson’s Advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan and Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal President Sultan Salahuddin Tuku were among the accused in the case.

Ten activists of BNP, who were arrested yesterday, were among the named accused.

The three SI brought charges of attempted murder of police personnel, arson attack and vandalism of vehicles, unlawful gathering, obstructing law enforcers from discharging their duties, and producing and exploding crude bombs.

At least 100 BNP activists and 10 police personnel were injured as they clashed during a road march programme of the party in the capital’s Science Lab area yesterday. [The Daily Star]
