CHATTOGRAM, July 8, 2026 (BSS): State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid has unveiled a plan to elevate the 47-kilometer railway line from Chattogram to Dohazari by five feet, aiming to permanently address the water logging issues affecting the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar railway line.
He shared this information with reporters at the Chattogram Railway Station this morning (July 8) following an inspection of the waterlogged railway line in the Sholashahar area of the city.
City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain was present with the state minister during the inspection. State Minister Habibur Rashid stated, “Our goal is to solve the difficulties faced by the passengers. We intend to raise the 47-kilometer railway line from Chattogram to Dohazari on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar railway line by five feet. This will ensure normal movement even during heavy rainfall”.
He mentioned that the project is currently in the tendering phase. Expressing optimism about the commencement of work soon, he added that the successful implementation of this project would bring an end to the long-standing hardships experienced by the residents of this region.
In light of the current circumstances, the State Minister for Railways has stated that he personally inspected the waterlogged areas. He noted, “In certain locations, water has accumulated to knee depth. To prevent significant accidents, we have decided to temporarily halt train services on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route.”
He further mentioned that these services will remain suspended until the water levels decrease. Passengers who have pre-purchased tickets will receive refunds in accordance with the established regulations. Train operations on this route will recommence once the rainfall diminishes and conditions return to normal, he added.
