The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and an International Monetary Fund (IMF) technical assistance team on Wednesday discussed expanding green and sustainability bonds to strengthen Bangladesh’s capital market and promote sustainable finance.

The meeting, held at the BSEC headquarters, was led by BSEC Commissioner Tanwir Habib Rahman, while the IMF delegation was headed by mission leader Suphachol Suphachalasai.

The discussions focused on developing Bangladesh’s market for green, sustainability and other thematic bonds. The two sides also exchanged views on progress in sustainable finance taxonomy, impact reporting, strengthening external review systems, identifying potential issuers, assessing investor demand, and improving coordination among regulators and development partners.

Participants emphasised the need to expand the capital market’s role in mobilising sustainable finance and supporting climate-resilient investment across Bangladesh.

The meeting concluded with discussions on capacity building, policy development and strengthening market infrastructure in line with international best practices.
