DHAKA, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) – Members of the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Police, Ansar and other law enforcement agencies are working in close coordination to maintain peace, public safety and stability across the three districts of the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT).
Security personnel remain on high alert to maintain law and order and respond promptly to any emerging situation.
Talking to BSS during a recent visit to different parts of the CHT, local people said the region has remained largely peaceful due to coordinated efforts by the army and the civil administration.
They said the army, BGB, police, ansar and intelligence agencies are also actively working to prevent sabotage and other subversive activities in the area.
Deputy Commissioner of Khagrachhari Md Anwar Sadat told BSS that the security forces are fully prepared to deal with any situation.
“The Bangladesh Army, Police, BGB and other relevant agencies are working in close coordination to maintain law and order,” he said.
The deputy commissioner said the district administration has been holding regular meetings with representatives of different ethnic communities to strengthen communal harmony.
He alleged that some extremist groups occasionally try to destabilise the region by spreading misinformation, but such attempts are being effectively countered through the vigilance of the law enforcement agencies.
Officials concerned said security has been further toughened in Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachhari ahead of the ‘International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples’ on August 9 to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure public safety.
Local people said armed clashes occasionally occur among regional groups over establishing dominance that disrupt normal life and sometimes cause civilian casualties also.
They, however, said intensified surveillance and joint operations by the law enforcement agencies have helped keep such incidents under control.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Khagrachhari Md Mizanur Rahman told BSS that the army, police, BGB and other law enforcement agencies are maintaining close coordination to uphold law and order in the district.
Describing Khagrachhari as a major tourist destination, he said security has been reinforced across the district to ensure the safety of visitors.
“The district police are conducting regular cyber patrols, while joint operations are being carried out whenever necessary . . . no extremist or terrorist activities or acts of provocation will be tolerated here,” he said.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Shefalika Tripura told BSS that the army, BGB, police, ansar and other agencies have been carrying out their responsibilities sincerely to preserve peace and harmony in the hill region.
She said the law enforcement agencies have been effectively preventing attempts to create division or conflict between the ethnic communities and the Bengali residents as well.
“We believe in peaceful coexistence. Everyone must work together to protect harmony and stability in the hills,” she added.
