Govt to procure 3.65 lakh MTs of fertilizer

DHAKA, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved proposals to import a total of 3.65 lakh metric tons of fertilizer from different sources including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Morocco, Canada and KAFCO.

The approvals were given at the 41st meeting of the CCGP held at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

The committee approved the import of 40,000 tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company of Saudi Arabia as the third lot for the 2026-27 fiscal year at a cost of Taka 188.66 crore.

The price has been set at US$380.83 per ton.

It also approved the import of 35,000 tons of MOP fertiliser from Russia’s JSC “Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg)” under a government-to-government agreement with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

The procurement will cost Taka 166.43 crore with the price fixed at $383.80 per ton.

Under the G2G arrangement between Morocco’s OCP NUTRICROPS, S.A, and BADC, the committee approved two lots of 40,000 tons each of DAP fertiliser.

The fourth lot will cost Taka 443.06 crore and the fifth lot Taka 442.89 crore, with the price for both lots fixed at $894 per ton.

The committee also approved two lots of TSP fertiliser from OCP NUTRICROPS, S.A, Morocco. The fifth lot, comprising 30,000 tons, will cost Taka 252.01 crore at $678 per ton while the sixth lot of 30,000 tons will cost Taka 248.20 crore at $668 per ton.

Besides, two lots of MOP fertiliser, each comprising 40,000 tons, will be imported from Canadian Commercial Corporation under a G2G agreement with BADC.

The first lot will cost Taka 190.13 crore and the second Taka 189.83 crore. The price for both lots is $383.80 per ton.

The committee further approved the import of 40,000 tons of DAP fertiliser from Saudi Arabia’s MA’ADEN under a state-level agreement with BADC. The procurement will cost Taka 440.33 crore, with the price set at $891 per ton.

In another proposal, the CCGP approved the purchase of 30,000 tons of bagged granular urea from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh, for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The second lot of KAFCO urea will cost Taka 133.57 crore, with the price fixed at $359.50 per ton, including an FOB price of $354.50 and a bagging charge of $5.

All the proposals were recommended for approval by the committee.

The fertiliser procurements are part of the government’s efforts to maintain adequate stocks of key agricultural inputs and ensure timely supply to farmers.

The day’s CCGP meeting also approved a Taka 7.08 crore variation proposal for the construction of the 121-metre Vellapara Bridge over Murai Khal on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf national highway.

According to the proposal, the Roads and Highways Department is implementing the bridge construction project under government financing through the Chattogram South Road Division.
