DHAKA, Sept 19, 2026 (BSS) – Security has been tightened across the capital following a series of crude bomb explosions and bus arson incidents, with police setting up more than 200 checkpoints and deploying additional forces at key entry points.
“Law enforcement agencies have stepped up security measures across Dhaka to maintain public safety and prevent any further incidents. Those found involved will be brought under the law,” Chief of Detective Branch (DB) and Additional Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md Shafiqul Islam told BSS today.
As part of the heightened security measures, entry and exit points of flyovers across the capital have been brought under tight security, with check posts set up and plainclothes police deployed to monitor the overall security situation.
The heightened security measures came after several incidents of crude bomb explosions and buses being set on fire on Friday, prompting law enforcement agencies to step up searches, patrols and surveillance across Dhaka.
Those involved in the incidents would be brought to book through proper investigation, he also said.
According to the DMP, police have been deployed at four major entry points to Dhaka, while searches are being conducted at more than 200 checkpoints on important roads.
The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has also increased patrols and established checkpoints at several strategic locations since Friday night.
Police have launched investigations into the explosions and bus arson incidents. General diaries and cases have been filed, while CCTV footage from the locations is being collected to identify those responsible.
Law enforcement agencies said heightened surveillance, checkpoint operations and patrols would continue across the capital.
