DHAKA, Oct 4, 2026 (BSS) – A total of 287 voters have registered to cast their ballots by post in the by-election to the Thakurgaon-1 constituency. Of the registered voters, 29 are expatriates, while 258 are government officials and employees residing in the country and voters engaged in election duties, according to the officials of the Election Commission (EC).
Meanwhile, the deadline for filing appeals against the returning officer’s decision in the scrutiny of nomination papers for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election ends today, EC officials said.
According to the EC schedule, the appeals will be disposed of on October 6. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 7, while electoral symbols will be allocated among the candidates on October 8.
Voting in the constituency will be held continuously from 8 am to 4 pm on October 29.
A notice signed by District Election Officer and Returning Officer Md Kamrul Islam on September 29 published the list of validly nominated candidates.
The candidates declared valid are BNP-nominated Obaidullah Masud and Mirza Faysal Amin; Delwar Hossain of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami; Md Abdul Alim Nizami of Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan; Md Khademul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; and Husain Muhammad Omar Faruk of Bangladesh Congress.
Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed said 507,203 voters were registered in the constituency during the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election held on February 12. However, following the addition of new voters recently, the total number of voters in the constituency has now reached 515,525.
It may be mentioned that the Thakurgaon-1 seat was declared vacant as the elected Member of Parliament from the constituency, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has recently assumed office as the President of the country.
