DHAKA, April 23, 2026 (BSS)- The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has directed all government hospitals in the country to increase beds to cope with the pressure of measles patients.

It has been clearly instructed that any hospital must not turn away measles or suspected measles patients due to a shortage of beds, according to a press release issued here today.

The directive signed by the Director of the Department of Health (Hospitals and Clinics) Dr Abu Hossain Md. Mainul Ahsan has asked all government hospitals to implement this instruction immediately.

It stated that patients with measles or measles symptoms who come to the hospital cannot be turned away even if the beds are not vacant. If necessary, additional beds will be arranged.

However, in case of a critical condition, the patient can be referred for advanced treatment.

In the case of referral, the prescribed referral chain of upazila health complex, district hospital, medical college hospital and specialized hospital must be followed.

It also warned that failure to comply with the directives would hold the head of the concerned hospital accountable.
