Bangladesh delegation joins OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad

DHAKA, July 13, 2026 (BSS) – A Bangladesh delegation, led by Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Prof Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, has joined the two-day 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The conference began on July 12 and concludes today, According to a handout issued today.

The delegation included Women and Children Affairs Secretary Yasmeen Parveen and the minister’s Private Secretary Dr Md Mahmudul Haque.

In addition, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md Iqbal Hussain Khan joined the conference. Ministerial level representatives of OIC member states are participating in the conference.

On the sidelines of the conference on Sunday, Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain held a meeting with Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Zahra Behrouz Azar.

Among others, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md Iqbal Hussain Khan and Iran’s Deputy Head of Mission Nabi Ollah Shirazi were present during the meeting.

The two sides discussed issues related to mutual cooperation among the Islamic Ummah in building an inclusive and humane society.

In the meeting, Zahid Hossain highlighted the development and progress of women in Bangladesh in various sectors. He specifically mentioned the recently launched Family Card for the development of women.

He called for increasing cooperation between the two countries in education, health, women’s and children’s welfare, and social development.

The Iranian Vice President expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the participation of the delegation led by Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
held recently.

She mentioned Bangladesh as a role model in the development of women and highly appreciated the steps taken by the Bangladesh government for the development of women.

Zahra Behrouz Azar specifically mentioned the progress of Iranian women in the field of education and expressed the intention of the Muslim Ummah to work together for the development of women and invited the minister to visit Iran.
