Dhaka, Aug 28, 2026 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has warned people against taking loans through unauthorised mobile applications, online platforms and digital channels, saying such activities could expose borrowers to financial fraud, misuse of personal information and harassment.

In a press release, the BFIU said some individuals and organisations have been offering quick loans on easy terms through various mobile applications, online platforms, social media-based groups and other digital channels without proper authorisation.

The unit said these unauthorised digital loan providers often collect borrowers’ personal information, contacts stored on mobile phones, photographs and other sensitive data.

They may later use such information to exert undue pressure on borrowers, threaten them, disclose their personal information and demand additional money in the name of loan recovery.

Such activities pose risks to people’s financial security and personal privacy, the BFIU said.

It said lending is a regulated financial activity in Bangladesh and no individual, institution, mobile application, online platform or digital channel is authorised to conduct lending activities without approval from Bangladesh Bank and compliance with existing laws, regulations and regulatory frameworks.

The BFIU also warned that unauthorised lending activities could facilitate fraud, financial crimes and money laundering, particularly when there is no proper regulatory oversight, transaction transparency or protection of personal information.

Citing the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, the BFIU said acquiring money through fraudulent lending activities constitutes a predicate offence to money laundering and is punishable under Section 4 of the law.

The BFIU urged people to remain cautious and refrain from obtaining loans through unfamiliar mobile applications, websites or online platforms.

It advised people not to provide personal information, identity-document details, bank-account information or sensitive mobile-phone data to unknown applications or platforms in response to loan offers.

People were also advised to be cautious if any platform demands advance payments, registration fees, processing fees or other charges in the name of providing a loan.

The BFIU said information about unauthorised lending platforms or related individuals and organisations can be submitted as complaints through its website.

The press release said 31 unauthorised mobile applications have so far come to the attention of the BFIU.

The applications listed by the BFIU include Sathi Loan, Pop Cash, Fin Cash, Quick Loan, Quick Taka, Dhaka Fin, LoanBhaib, Dost Loan, Keoyaj Loan, SSH Money, LoanBadi, Cash Hara, Alo Cash, Fast Loan, Easy Cash, Dhoirjo Loan, Fin Net Due, Taka Cash Loan, BongoCash, Asa Loan, Subidha Loan, Smart Loan BD, Online Loan BD, City Online Loan, BD Sahaj Loan, Cash Loan, Sonali, LoanHat and TakaNow.
