DHAKA, Oct 21, 2026 (BSS) – The University of Dhaka (DU) has secured a place in the top 100 universities worldwide for family business research. In the inaugural “Family Business Research Index 2026,” published by the German non-profit organisation WIFU Foundation, the University of Dhaka ranked 74th among 2,345 universities globally.
This ranking was released recently, a DU press release said here today.
This index was developed to evaluate the contributions of universities to research in the field of family business. Based on research publications indexed in OpenAlex over a three-year period from 2023 to 2025, the ranking took into account the research output of universities and the standing of related journals.
OpenAlex is an open and free database and knowledge graph of global research publications and related data. According to the WIFU Foundation, a zero score was assigned to research papers published in unindexed journals.
Established in 2009, the WIFU Foundation is headquartered in Witten, Germany.
The organisation works on research, education, and knowledge exchange regarding family businesses, entrepreneurial families, and the long-term development of family enterprises.
Commenting on this achievement, DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said, “The inclusion of the University of Dhaka among the top 100 universities in the world for ‘Family Business Research’ is undoubtedly a matter of joy and pride.
“This recognition will further encourage the university’s teachers and researchers in their research endeavors. We aim to elevate the University of Dhaka to a more prestigious position on the global stage by enhancing the quality of research, publishing international standard research papers, and
creating new knowledge.
To achieve this goal, we will continue to work importantly on creating a more favorable environment for researchers and expanding the scope of research,” the VC added.
