DHAKA, Oct 12, 2026 (BSS) – A loan agreement of RMB 2.404 billion (Taka 3592.8975 crore or US$ 335.78 million) between the government of Bangladesh and the Export-Import Bank (EXIM) of China has been signed for the project “Expansion and Modernization of Mongla Port Facilities”.
This project will be implemented by the Mongla Port Authority, under the Ministry of Shipping.
Alia Meher, joint secretary of Economic Relations Division (ERD), and Fengjun Tian, assistant general manager of EXIM Bank of China, signed the loan agreement on October 10 on behalf of their respective governments, said an ERD press release here today.
Through this project, the port will undergo necessary modernization, including the construction of two container terminals equipped with modern machinery, along with a container yard, a container delivery yard, and a cargo handling yard.
Under the loan agreement, the government of China confirmed concessional financing for the project at a two percent interest rate. The loan repayment period will be 20 years, including a five-year grace period.
