DHAKA, Nov 4, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka University (DU) has retained its top position among universities in Bangladesh in the ‘QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027’, published by the UK-based global higher education research organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
In the latest rankings published on November 3, DU has been placed 136th overall in Asia and 16th among universities in South Asia, a DU press release said today.
DU also held the top spot among Bangladeshi institutions in the previous year’s ranking.
A total of 1,722 universities from 26 Asian countries were evaluated in this edition. The University of Hong Kong secured the first position, while Peking University of China ranked second.
Expressing delight over the recognition, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam said, “This position of Dhaka University in the international rankings is a matter of pride and joy for us. Consistently retaining the top position among Bangladeshi universities is a reflection of the collective efforts of our teachers, students, researchers and all concerned.”
“However, our goal is not merely to maintain our rank, but to further solidify DU’s standing in the international arena by continuously improving the quality of education and research,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
Prof. Obaidul Islam emphasized that enriching the academic and research environment, boosting research facilities, expanding international collaboration, and creating opportunities for students to acquire global-standard skills remain top priorities for the administration.
He urged teachers, students, alumni, and stakeholders to continue working together toward achieving these goals.
The QS Asia University Rankings evaluate institutions based on key performance indicators, including academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, research impact and quality, staff with PhDs, international research network, and international student-faculty ratio.
