The ruling Awami League in its 22nd triennial council on Saturday selected the party’s top leadership. Sheikh Hasina has been reelected to the post of president for the tenth consecutive time, and Obaidul Quader as the general secretary for the third time in a row.
They were reelected for the next three years at the second session of the event held in the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka.
AL leader Amir Hossain Amu proposed Sheikh Hasina as president of the party, and Mostafizur Rahman Fizar seconded the motion. Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister, was elected unopposed as there were no opposing candidates for the post.
Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, chairman of the Election Commission formed for conducting the party polls, declared Sheikh Hasina as the AL president and Obaidul Quader as the general secretary.
